I went back to Pinguino’s, the place with the marimba players, for dinner.  The owner’s  name is Miguel, and he remembered my name when I came back. The three marimba players are his daughters and his niece.  After they played a number of Guatemalan pieces (including Twelfth Street Rag), Miguel announced that his niece Ruby was going to sing a French song, “Je Ne Regrette Rien,” as sung by Edith Piaf.  Ruby did a pretty good job of it (in French), although I’m not sure whether Edith Piaf would have been at her best accompanied by two marimbas.  Then came the part that blew my mind.  Miguel took the microphone and announced that they had learned Je Ne Regrette Rien in 2012, and now in 2013 they are learning a song in English.  My Way.
